St Augustine's Match Friday 8th February 2013

Mud Glorious Mud!!

31st January 2013 wake up to pouring rain and howling winds!!
Um........... its the St Augustine's practice round.
Quick call to St Augustine's "is the course open just checking due to the pouring rain". Yes madam the course is open.

Switch phone on to check how many ladies have baled out - impressed NO-ONE.This lot are keen!!
Jump in car still pouring and blowing a gale - am sure they won't all turn up!!  Off I go.
St Augustine's have already told us no trollies and some temporary greens so with this rain think its going to be a right old mess.
Get to St Augustine's rain eased off so looks promising. Into clubhouse wow all the ladies have turned up. Fantastic lot these Ladies.
Into pro shop to meet Brenda's friend - he really is a right misery but we are all set to go!!
Onto course - whats all these signs!!!
7 Temporary greens (apparently just reduced from 18!!)
Teeing up on fairway (what fairway cant see one!!)
Bunkers all full of water so GUR!!
Water and mud coming up over our shoes!!
Are they SERIOUS!!!!!!

Well we survived and most played 12 holes but well done to Lisa and Pat who did all 18.

The course is in such bad condition I can't believe they will be expecting us to play our match next week but I will be contacting the St Augustine Pearson Captain to discuss so please watch this space.
In the meantime WELL DONE to the 12 who turned up today including VIV who left her squirrels behind.
It was FUN!!

St Augustine's Practice Round Thursday 31st January 2013

As most of you will know by now there has been a slight hiccup with our arrangements for Thursdays practice round at St Augustine's.

First off St Augustine's have not allowed trollies for the last 5 - 6 weeks and it is unlikely that we will be able to use them on Thursday or for the match next Friday. So you will need a carry bag. You should bring trollies with you just in case but I think this sounds pretty doubtful.

Secondly the start time has had to be changed and we will be teeing off from 8.56am.

I hope you will all still be able to make it and just to confirm its;

Dates for your Diaries

We have booked a practice round for both St Augustine's and Sidcup matches and hope you can make a note of the dates in your new diaries!

St Augustine's will be on Thursday, 31st January at 1000 for 12 players

Sidcup will be on Tuesday 5th February at 1000 for 12 players

The make up of the team may change due to absences and the need for different handicaps so Helen will decide on those twelve at the get together on the 8th.

Get Together Tuesday 8th January 2013

I hope you have all had a very merry Christmas. If it was anything like mine you will have eaten far too much and will need to get out on the golf course to get those extra pounds off.
So I have just the opportunity - a Pearson Get Together on Tuesday 8th January 2013!!

After all the festivities we do need to get our Pearson heads back on as we have 2 important away matches coming up at the beginning of February which will need careful planning as both Sue G and Diana are away on holiday.

So I have booked some tee times from 8.48am on the 8th January and hope many of you will be able to join us. Please add your name to this post if you can make it so that I can check that I have enough tee times available.

If you can't make golf that day I hope you will be abe to join us for lunch as we need to sort out the practice rounds for these matches. Please let me know either way.

I hope you all enjoy the New Years celebrations and look forward to seeing you on the 8th.

Three out of Three!!

A 5 - 2 win against Sidcup on Thursday maintained Team West Malling's unbeaten run this season. But how hard it was!!

First off we had a bitterly cold day with freezing temperatures and then we had the inevitable task of giving loads of shots to the Sidcup team. Both Lindsay and Debbie C found they were giving 4 shots to their opponents, Caroline 5 and Sue Gofton going one better at 6 shots. It was going to be a hard day!!

But Team West Malling showed their normal determination to overcome the odds and did it in style. Both Lindsay and Debbie found their opponents consistently out driving them but came out winners with Lindsay winning 4 & 3 and Debbie winning on the 17th (2& 1). Caroline won 4 & 2 whilst Rena notched up another win taking out her opponent 5 & 3. And Diana maintained her 100% record in a very tight game winning her match on the 18th. Both Judith and Sue lost out in tough matches giving an overall score of 5 - 2 in our favour, a truly fantastic result given the circumstances.

Well Done West Malling another champions display!!

We now have a break from our matches for the next month but will need to be ready for our away matches at St Augustine's and Sidcup at the beginning of February. Brenda is already busy arranging some practice rounds and I will be sorting out a Get Together for January so please check the blog regularly for details.

In the meantime I will wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Golfing Year. It is an absolute pleasure to be a part of the wonderful group of ladies that are Team West Malling and I look forward to the challenges of 2013 with great confidence.

Change of Date - Chart Hills Away.

Chart Hills have notified us that our match on the 19th March 2013 cannot go ahead due to a Pro Comp on the same day.

The match has been re-arranged for Thursday 18th April 2013 meeting at 9am for a 9.40am start.

Wow, Wow, Wow!!

Team West Malling continued its impressive start to this years competition with a 7 - 0 demolition of Mid Kent at home today. But the match could have ended up much closer as 3 matches were won on either the 18th or 19th holes.

Lindsay Hart and Caroline Harrison both overcame the disappointment of narrowly losing last week at Mid Kent and did it in style with Lindsay chalking up a 6 & 4 win and Caroline beating the Mid Kent Pearson captain by 4 & 3. Julie Harris was next in winning 5 & 4  but the next three matches all went the distance.

Julia Martin-Harper playing her first Pearson match for us found herself up against former West Malling member  Jane Watkins and what a tight match this was with Jane coming back from 4 down to level on the 17th only to put her tee shot in the pond on the 18th with Julia replying with the perfect tee shot onto the green to take the match.

Next we saw a battling display from Rena Jones who took her match down the 19th to win (is she going to be this years Julie Harris??) and this was followed by Sue Gofton who after putting her tee shot on the 18th on the wrong side of the pond played a superb shot onto the green giving herself the chance to halve the hole and take the win.

Diana Scott then followed up her win last week with another, taking her match 3 & 2.

A Fantastic win today ladies - very well done.  It was great to see the determination of you all to secure those wins and continue our winning start to the season.

A BIG Thank You also to those ladies that played in front of the match. The match ran smoothly with no delays due to your efforts so thank you Jane, Debbie T, Judith, Carol E, Viv and Helen C.

Team West Malling began the 2012/2013 Pearson Trophy campaign in fine style today with an impressive win at Mid Kent.
Two close matches left Lindsay Hart and Caroline Harrison losing 1 down on the 18th and Debbie Conder, who was not feeling her best, lost 5&3.
Today however, the tail wagged! And how!
Julie Harris won 4&2, Rena Jones 3&2, Sue Gofton 2&1 and the Pearson rookie, Diana Scott with a very impressive 6&4.
Mid Kent were very generous with their welcome and congratulations.

Well done to all! And let's do it again on the 23rd!
