Blown Away!!
Well we literally did get blown away today at Chart Hills!! In some places it was difficult to stand up in the howling winds so playing golf was extremely challenging. Chart Hills however overcame the conditions and whilst Team West Malling battled hard we went down to our second defeat of the season losing 5 - 2.
Sue Gofton (3 & 2) and Julie Harris (1up) were our winners today whilst Carol Eldridge was disappointed to lose on the 18th. Caroline Harrison (6 & 5), Debbie Conder (5 & 4), Rena Jones and Pat Donovan (both 4 & 3) also lost.
Unlucky ladies but Chart Hills was always going to be a difficult place to go and win. You have however already done the hard work to win the group and we now move forward to the challenge of Shortlands in the next round.

Shortlands Practice Rounds
I have spoken to Shortlands Club Secretary and have a list of the possible days we could go there for our courtesy rounds. They don't have tee times and he is happy for us to come in smaller groups so....

Matches against Shortlands
We need to start planning for our practice round and matches against Shortlands which need to be completed by 30th May 2013.
I am aware that many of you have holidays booked in May so can I ask you all to let me know any dates from 22nd April through to 30th May that you are NOT available.
Please either add the details to this post or text me with the dates. If you could all let me have this information as soon as possible it will help enormously with the planning process.

Through to the Quarter Finals!!
A 5 - 2 win at St Augustine's yesterday sees Team West Malling through to the quarter finals of this years competition.
But having blitzed St Augustine's at home last month we certainly didn't have it all our own way!! The home team appeared very comfortable with both their own course and the windy conditions and competed all the way to give some of our ladies an anxious time. Four matches were won on the 17th or 18th holes with Rena Jones and Debbie Conder winning on the 17th and Lindsay Hart and Sue Gofton both going to the 18th before overcoming their opponents. Pat Donovan was the only one to have a runaway victory overcoming her opponent 7 & 6 while Carol Eldridge and Diana Scott both lost.
But the win secures our place in the next round with a game to spare so congratulations ladies, another impressive season.
We now take on Shortlands with the winners of this tie going through to Finals Day in June.

When is it going to warm up!!!
Well our season continued to have its ups and downs with the practice round at Chart Hills being the latest casualty!
We all arrived nice and early for breakfast only to find freezing temperatures, windy conditions and .......SNOW again!
Needless to say we didn't fancy going out to play golf so ate our breakfast and came home in sleet, snow and -1 degree temperatures. Is it really April????

This match has been confirmed with an 11.30am start.
The St Augustine's captain has also sent the following information:
"The course is in a slightly better state than earlier in the year but will take many more weeks to recover fully."
We will have to wait and see!!!!

Update
Well the sun has at last started to shine but for how long! The forecast I have seen says we are in for a cold April but lets hope they are wrong and it starts to warm up!
It will soon be time to put our Pearson hats back on as we attempt to win our group and qualify for the knockout stages of this years competition. As Easter is currently taking our focus I thought I would set out the arrangements for the next two weeks so that everyone knows what is happening.

Great Result!!
Team West Malling produced another great performance yesterday to defeat a very competitive Chart Hills team 5 - 2.
Lindsay Hart lead the way with a 4 & 3 win but 4 matches finished on the 17th hole showing how close the match was. Debbie Conder notched up a 3 & 1 win with Rena Jones, Diana Scott and Caroline Harrison all winning 2 & 1. Pat Donovan battled to the end but lost on the 18th and Sue Gofton also lost. We claimed 13 points to Chart Hills 9.
Another great performance ladies. Chart Hills were very determined to get a good result and you battled well to get the win.
This performance puts us in a good position in the group table with us needing one win from our last two matches to move through to the next round.
A BIG thank you to all the ladies that played in front of the match i.e. Sue S, Denise, Kelly, Belinda, Julie and Helen C - we appreciate your help very much. Also thanks to Judith who stood in for Viv and organised the snacks/bananas.
Our next match is now over a month away - St Augustine's away on the 12th April when hopefully we will have better playing conditions than those we experienced on our practice round. If any one would like to go to St Augustine's for another practice round before the match can they please let me know.

Back on Track!!
Team West Malling bounced back from the recent defeat at Sidcup with a massive 7 - 0 win at home against St. Augustine's. And what a win it was!
Kelly Hanson lead the way with a 9 & 8 trouncing of her opponent and Caroline Harrsion and Sue Gofton followed closely with 8 & 7 wins. Pat Donovan also convincingly won her match 8 & 6 and Diana Scott finished off her opponent on the 14th winning 5 & 4. Two closer matches saw Rena Jones winning on the 17th 3 & 1 and Carol Eldridge stuck in against her opponent to win 2 up on the 18th.
Our win notched up a massive 43 points and should put us back on top of the group table.
A fabulous win Ladies showing a real ruthlessness against a team that didn't really look up for the fight!
Our next match against Chart Hills next Thursday will be more challenging and I will announce the team for this match on Monday. Chart Hills have recently lost their second match of the season losing 4-3 at Mid Kent so if we could notch up another win this will put us in a good position in the group standings.
