End of the Road!!
Despite a valiant effort Team West Malling failed in their attempt to get to this years Pearson Trophy Finals Day and have the opportunity to defend the title that we won last year.
Having to overcome a 5 - 2 loss from the match at Shortlands and also having the disappointment of our match last week being abandoned when we were on top our team then had to take on a Shortlands team who had had the opportunity to regroup and also take advantage of an additional practice round.
Early indications were that we were going to have to win 6 matches if we were going to progress to the next round and we sadly fell short winning only 5 matches and going out on points. Great credit must go to all the ladies who played in very challenging circumstances:
My thanks go to you all and also the other ladies that took part in this years matches, Lindsay Hart, Caroline Harrison, Kelly Hanson, Julie Harris, Julia Martin-Harper, Judith Parkhurst and Carol Eldridge. And to all those ladies that played out in front of the matches at West Malling and our supporters. And of course Brenda, Judith and Viv for their support this year.
And in more ways than one it is the end of the road as Brenda and I stand down as your Captains. We have had an amazing 4 years helping you develop into the champions you have become. We have been to two County Finals and missed out on another 2 on points. and of course we have been so proud to be part of the team that became Four County Champions last year.
Our thanks go to everyone who has played in one of our teams, to our wonderful team of caddies and all our supporters. We could not have done it without you and we are just so grateful to you all for allowing us to be part of it.

- Debbie Conder who recovered from 3 down to win her match 3 and 2
- Rena Jones who battled long and hard against dead eye dick and triumphed on the 17th
- Pat Donovan who despite not being well showed her normal determination but found her opponent too hot to handle going down 6 and 4
- Sue Gofton who saw her 3 hole lead disappear but stuck in to win on the 18th
- Gill Newson playing only her second Pearson match and displaying all her enthusiasm to win 4 and 3
- Lia Kiddie, thrown in at the deep end for her very first Pearson match, who showed her great potential to win 4 and 3
- Diana Scott who overcame her difficulties at Shortlands and battled hard in a very close match eventually losing on the 17th.

What a Fiasco!!
Well what a fiasco our match against Shortlands today turned out to be!!!
With rain steadily falling our ladies set out to overturn a 5 - 2 deficit from our earlier match at Shortlands. But as the match progressed the rain got heavier causing some of the greens to get a little waterlogged. So what we would say!! However with Team West Malling leading in 6 of the 7 matches the Shortlands captain decided that the course was unplayable and the match was halted.
Many of the ladies were keen to continue including many of the Shortlands team but eventually Chris Corke was called in to give an opinion. The club sent out green keepers to squeegee the greens and Chris asked that the match continue. However the rain also continued and as fast as the greens were cleared of water they filled up again and eventually the match was abandoned. We all returned to the clubhouse rather wet and more than a little fed up.
We have been allowed a weeks extension to get this match re-played and it will now go ahead next Wednesday 5th June with a 2pm start.
I am already praying for good weather!!!!!!!!!!!!

Away Match v Shortlands
We entered the knock out phase of this year's Pearson Competition on Wednesday with a tough match against a Shortlands Team who play their home course very well and we came up short, losing 5 matches to 2 (19 points to 6).
Handicap differences were not the issue we feared they might be with no one giving more than 2 shots but it was not to be our day.
Caroline Harrison met a very strong Paulette Jasquith and lost 6&4. Debbie Conder was very unlucky to lose 1 down on the 18th. Rena Jones and Pat Donovan lost 5&3 and 4&2 respectively.
Sue Gofton and Carol Eldridge both had good wins of 3&2 and Diana Scott battled on feeling very unwell necessitating a trip to hospital later, thankfully feeling better the next day. Thanks also to Julie Harris who was the sub on day.
So well done ladies, it's only half time in the round and all to play for in the second half at West Malling on May 28th.

Blown Away!!
Well we literally did get blown away today at Chart Hills!! In some places it was difficult to stand up in the howling winds so playing golf was extremely challenging. Chart Hills however overcame the conditions and whilst Team West Malling battled hard we went down to our second defeat of the season losing 5 - 2.
Sue Gofton (3 & 2) and Julie Harris (1up) were our winners today whilst Carol Eldridge was disappointed to lose on the 18th. Caroline Harrison (6 & 5), Debbie Conder (5 & 4), Rena Jones and Pat Donovan (both 4 & 3) also lost.
Unlucky ladies but Chart Hills was always going to be a difficult place to go and win. You have however already done the hard work to win the group and we now move forward to the challenge of Shortlands in the next round.
