Phew....that was close!

It was a slightly subdued team that left Faversham today having lost 5 - 2. This result however should be good enough to get us through to the knockout stages of the competition so the team should be very very proud of their achievements. A fantastic 5 & 4 win for Caroline and a gutsy win on the 18th from Helen Venis (who had to give 11 shots!) gave us our two wins but a strong Faversham side took the other 5 matches showing that they are a tough side to beat at home.
Well done ladies and don't be too hard on yourselves - we have had a fantastic season to date and it hasn't finished yet as we will have to play two more matches by the 30th May. I hope you enjoyed your celebrations back at West Malling and you weren't too loud!!

Some more fantastic performances

A huge well done to Judith for winning the Elizabeth Budd and dropping her handicap to 19 and also to Debbie Conder for her reduction to 18. What with Helen Venis recently winning the Spring Meeting and losing 2 shots off her handicap it really shows why the Pearson team are being so successful as all the players are bang in form.
Some terrific stuff ladies but please don't go too mad as we will need as many shots as we can find for the next round!
See you all Thursday.

Win by 6/4 = 6 points to winner
Win by 2 holes = 2 points to winner
Win beyond 18th hole = 1 point to winner
Disqualification or Walk-over = 1 point to winner

Any further tie shall be decided by the highest number of away points won. In the event of all the above options being tied, there will be a play-off on a neutral course.

STUNNING.....

Well what can I say - nowhere in my wildest dreams did I think we would beat Littlestone 7 - 0 (although I was convinced we would win) and neither did the Littlestone Captain. She came prepared with an envelope to send the result sheet to the Pearson organiser, something that only the winning team has to do and unfortunately had to take it home with her!!
Not only have the team won but they did it in style with some stunning scores:
Kelly 3 & 2
Sue 7 & 5 ( I don't think Belinda will be getting her red jumper back now!)
Brenda 1 up
Caroline 6 & 5
Debbie Conder 8 & 6
Helen Venis 7 & 5 (even after dropping her handicap by 2 shots)
Judith 2 & 1

This result means we are nearly through the group stage and can secure this at Faversham next week. I will post the league table shortly so that you can see the current state of play.

Ladies you were absolutely FANTASTIC today. You blew the opposition away and even the Littlestone Captain had to agree that we have a GREAT team.

Oh So Close

How gutted am I feeling for the team today who have narrowly lost at Littlestone 4 - 3.
The match was so close that Littlestone only scored 10 points to our 9 where in all their other home matches they have scored at least 27 points!
All the team contributed to a great performance with superb results from Debbie Conder (who had to give 6 shots) and Helen Venis both winning 4 & 2 and Debbie Tennant who won on the 20th giving us our 3 wins. And a special mention for Sue Stickland who lost out to a monster putt from her opponent also on the 20th after a terrific battle - golf can be so cruel sometimes.
Kelly (4 & 2), Brenda (2 down) and Caroline (3 & 2) also battled hard against experienced opponents but came out second best on this occassion but I am sure they will already be plotting their revenge for next week's match.
The Littlestone captain was genuinely worried at one stage that she had lost the match it was that close.
Ladies don't lose heart it was a terrific performance and revenge will be sweet next week.
Thank you for all your efforts, it was a pleasure being with you today. Thanks also to Rena and Judith for their support.

West Malling V Chart Hills 1st April 2010

After all the hassle as to whether the course would be open we woke yesterday to a beautiful sunny (if not chilly) day. And the good weather inspired another great team performance with us beating Chart Hills 5 - 2.
A huge win for Helen Venis (9 & 7) was nearly matched by Debbie Tennant who beat her opponent 7 & 5 with Brenda Wilson (4 & 2), Kelly Hanson & Debbie Conder (both 2 & 1) giving us a convincing win. Judith Parkhurst (2 & 1) and Caroline Harrison who lost on the 18th both had close games before losing out to very steady opponents.
WELL DONE TEAM - YOU WERE FANTASTIC AS USUAL.

Todays Match

Both courses open today so match is on.
I am unable to contact the office to see how many temporary greens are in play but the pro shop believe there are 3 on the spitfire and 1 on the hurricane. If this is correct we will play the designated course i.e the spitfire.
See you all later.
